He probably didn’t understand the weight of the situation, in the sense of he knew the ‘joke’ was fucked up, but it was easier for him to brush off and move on instead of register guilt that could have come with it. It feels likely that they could have just blocked out the criticisms of people for him, hid/ are hiding him away for a while until it dies down. He’s a little disconnected right now, but it’s not a problem of language barrier. It’s chewing on ignorance that will remain until he might experience something similar to wake him up and realize.

But as time goes along they will be forced to take it with grains of salt on the other side of the coin. I do see him opening social media and fucking around, showing off parts of himself. Even potential of a youtube channel where it's bite sized 5-10~ minute vlogs. I don't see him leaving the company, but possibly staying on for solo work. The biggest thing of all is that he's likely to stay just right where he is and take quite a bit of a vacation before returning to work in the industry. He's going to be quite honest with his feelings, but I do see him skirting around his deeper/darker feelings in relation to sadness. He's going to be very bright eyed and bushy tailed as normal.
